Assessing electronic energy loss of heavy ions detected in reflection geometry

چکیده

We study energy loss spectra of bromine ions scattered from silver thin films in the range 4 to 36 MeV forward reflection geometry. The different contributions are analyzed by complementary Monte Carlo simulations. assess dependence scattering yield and nuclear electronic losses on penetration depth detected ions. For larger depth, we observe decreased elastic increased trajectory length comparison with predictions single scattering, increasing effects for lower energies. To investigate entanglement information, stopping cross sections deduced experimental two approaches: (a) assuming a model (b) making use data obtained approaches compared, relative effect multiple length. Results both methods discussed context composition profiling compared literature Stopping Range Ions Matter (SRIM) resulting good agreement.

Electronic Stopping of Heavy Ions in Solids

One of the most fruitful theories in the field of the electronic energy loss of heavy ions in solids is the concept of effective charge theory. The familiar results have hitherto been based on the restricted target model of the homogeneous electron gas. The major part of the target characterization is added in form of experimental proton data, using the ‘heavy ion scaling rule.’ On the other ha...

Fragmentation of Very High Energy Heavy Ions

We present experimental results on fragmentation charge-changing cross sections of 158 A GeV lead ions (charge Z = 82e) incident on Cu and CR39 targets. To detect and identify the relativistic ions, the nuclear track detector CR39 was used. When an ion crosses a nuclear track detector foil, it produces damages at the level of molecular bonds, forming the so called “latent track”. During the che...

Energy loss by keV ions in silicon.

Using silicon photodiodes with an ultrathin passivation layer, the average total energy lost to silicon target electrons (electronic stopping) by incident low energy ions and the recoil target atoms they generate is directly measured. We find that the total electronic energy deposition and the ratio of the total nuclear to electronic stopping powers for the incident ions and their recoils each ...

Electronic stopping of heavy ions in the Kaneko model.

The familiar results of eeective charge theory of the electronic stopping of heavy ions in solids have hitherto been based on the target model of a homogeneous electron gas. Thèheavy ion scaling rule' and experimental proton data were used to incorporate the major information on the polarization of real target materials. Introducing Kaneko's generalized target dielectric functions provides a de...
